Why do whales strand themselves?

Was the loss of 140 whales in Australia intentional on their part?

Answer from the pilot whales:

We are not sure what happened. We became disoriented for some reason and decided that the best course of action was to strand on a beach and see if the humans could figure it out and help us, or at least find out what caused us to become disoriented and keep this from effecting other whales in the future.
